Power In Truth is a dynamic youth-focused educational and leadership initiative that has been empowering middle and high school students in Douglas County since 2000. This program is dedicated to equipping young people with the tools they need to make healthy choices and resist high-risk behaviors, focusing particularly on prevention. Through engaging sessions, students learn to navigate media manipulation and social pressures, addressing critical issues such as substance use, bullying, healthy relationships, and mental health.
Recognized by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) as a model practice, Power In Truth exemplifies innovative responses to local public health needs. Its adaptability during the pandemic, transitioning to a virtual platform, ensured students continued to access vital resources when they were most needed. Now the program thrives in a hybrid model, offering a one-day immersive conference during the nation’s Red Ribbon Week, the largest drug-use prevention campaign, and available online year-round for ongoing learning and support.
For school advisors and advocates, Power In Truth not only sheds light on contemporary challenges faced by youth but also provides effective intervention strategies. This comprehensive approach enhances students’ leadership skills and empowers them to make informed, positive life choices.
